What a transformation! The government-provided medical clinic in this small ocean-side village had no running water, a leaking roof, and an unhealthy look all around. Medical supplies were limited and the working conditions were not conducive to quality health care.
Upon arrival in Honduras, our Michigan-based team began work, and work was the word! A group began troubleshooting the well situation, a group began a solution to the leaking roof, and still another group began removing the stained and moldy ceiling panels.
Over several days, a new well pump was installed that will provide pressurized water. The bad ceiling tiles were replaced throughout the five-room facility. The roof was sealed. The ceilings and walls were painted a beautiful bright color, and the team left the clinic in much better shape for the village. Plus several cases of medical supplies were delivered to help stock the shelves.
The significance of this clinic cannot be overstated. In a village where annual income averages less than $1,000 USD (that’s ANNUAL income!), the option of going someplace else is no option at all.
At Hope For Tela, our goal is to come along side local Hondurans to provide hope to a hurting world. Building relationships is key to making a difference. Those relationships are centered around the love of Christ and become an opportunity to share Christ with our new friends. As President Theodore Roosevelt said, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care”.
This is just one of the several efforts our team made in Honduras in September. If you are interested in taking your own mission trip, contact us to find out more.
