Welcome to the Hope for Tela blog page. We are excited that you are here and want to tell you a little about how we came to be in existence. In 2017 a few of our board members went to Tela, Honduras to see some property that belonged to the uncle of a former missionary in Honduras, Ana Cruz. On that trip we decided that the property had too many complications; however, we fell in love with the people and the area. God spoke to me through his word in Haggai. In Chapter 1:5 the Lord Almighty says, “Give careful thought to all your ways. You have planted much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it. Give careful thought to your ways. Go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build my house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored. You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why? Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with your own house.” It became clear to me that while our US churches need newer and better buildings and programs our brothers and sisters in the same body are going without basic needs such as food and clothing. I was convicted that I personally wasted much and complained often. My brothers and sisters who had little praised God for the gift of life and never complained about their impoverished circumstances. They knew they were working for the kingdom and that God would provide.
We decided to start working in this rural area and rented a house and hotel rooms in order to do marriage conferences. By divine appointment we knew of a couple in the area; however, we found other pastors by word of mouth and walking the streets of Tela. Our first conference was attended by eight couples, many of whom share in ministry with us today. Stay tuned for further stories of how an amazing God began the work of Hope for Tela.
Blessings,
Carmen
