In his final days, a fisherman’s father came to the beach hoping to be near his son. What began as fear of dying alone became a moment of peace and redemption, and a reminder that God’s love reaches even to the last breath.

✍️ The Story

Our fisherman neighbor and friend, his father, was dying of cancer. In his final days, he came to the village to spend time with his son and family. Though weak and frail, he attended one of our worship services and allowed us to pray for him.

Afterward, he returned to his home in the city. But only a few days later, he came back again. His son needed to work, and he didn’t want to die away from the people he loved.

That weekend, as our mission team was preparing to leave, I felt a quiet but strong prompting from the Holy Spirit to go visit Abram. I didn’t have an interpreter; our translator had already left with the departing team, but I prayed that God would give me words Abram could understand.

“Even when our words fall short, God’s love speaks perfectly.”

I said goodbye to the team and walked down the beach to where Abram lay on a simple bed, nearing the end of his earthly life. I opened my Bible and read scriptures about the hope we have in Jesus —the assurance that, because Christ died and rose again, those who believe in Him will also live.

My Spanish wasn’t perfect, but God’s message was clear. We prayed together, and I left knowing he would soon be returning to the city to die.

Later, I learned that another pastor visited Abram shortly after I left. That very night, Abram passed away peacefully in his home, with a smile on his face. His family said he was not the same man they had known before. God had met him there.

That day reminded me how powerful it is to obey the gentle nudges of the Holy Spirit. One small step of faith can change a life—and sometimes, an eternity.
