EMPOWERING-During 2022-23 we empowered the local public school by working along side local people to paint and outfit the local classrooms in La Ensenada. We also built and restored the playground and worked to get water to the building so the bathrooms were usable. We were able to make connections with students, teachers and people in the community as together we saw the task accomplished. We offer English classes upon the request of the community.
We empowered local churches by providing a Sunday School Teacher training, helping to encourage ideas about effective means for getting students involved in learning the word of God. We also worked alongside brothers and sisters from a local church to provide a roof for their house of worship and we helped with bags of cement to finish work on another temple. Stephan offered leadership classes at several of the area churches at their request. This allowed the pastors to share the burden of responsibility with people in their congregations.
We have a desire to work to improve small business in the Tela area. Stephan was able to make an impact in the FINEC community, where HFT was there to provide meals and the young professionals went to minister and pray at the local hospital. We have also made available some small business and housing loans for the working poor.
We also envision working more with local doctors and dentists to provide education and supplies and help in area clinics. This year we were able to provide small clinics, with medical and dental care and to supply the La Ensenada Clinic with prenatal vitamins and many items for wound care. We partnered with a local dentist who cleaned children’s teeth in a mountain community.
